Located on Islington’s Upper Street – in the former Be At One bar – Laki Kane transports you straight out of London to the Caribbean. Expect rush roofing, rope ladders (this could be a bad idea) and green plants, as well as tables fitted with call buttons for service (fantastic idea). The upstairs area is dedicated to rum master classes, teaching you the ins and outs of Laki Kane’s unique re-distillation process and how to create your own rum-based cocktails, all while enjoying rum tastings.
Helmed by Australia’s acclaimed chef Michael Moore, the menu brings in more sunshine to complement the cocktails. You’ll find shareable dishes such as flatbread with guacamole and an inventive rum crème fraîche dip, toasties with Cuban-style roast pork and even fruits de mer. Dessert is a difficult decision, with the choice between a coconut rum panna cotta or a trio of chocolate (Aztec chilli hot chocolate, chocolate brownie, and raspberry white chocolate mousse).
Laki Kane offers an exciting menu of cocktails, made with nothing but the finest rums and natural sweeteners. The signature “Laki Kane”, made with Bacardi Cuatro dark rum and Mozart dry chocolate vodka, is an obvious must-order, but then again, every cocktail on the menu begs to be ordered. From the “Cold Brew Punch” with a dose of coconut to the “Mahi Mahi” with fresh mango and the “Laki Lambo” with an edible orchid… the list goes on. Did we mention there are large-format cocktails too? Bring a group of friends and tackle the “Octopussy”, featuring Bacardi Cuatro, Amaro Lucano, caramel tea, grapefruit juice and peanut butter.
